A sweet contribution of the Structural Biology Unit to Institute of Molecular Biology of Barcelona christmas meeting

Yesterday, the Christmas Meeting of the Institute of Molecular Biology of Barcelona (IBMB) brought together around 100 people at the Center of Investigation and Development in Barcelona. During the day, eight talks of PhD and PhD students from IBMB showed the ongoing research of the Institute and gave the possibility to discuss about it. Pere Roca-Cusachs, from the Institute of Bioengineering of Catalonia, opened the morning session with an interesting talk of their investigations about the transduction of signals between the integrins and the nucleus within the cell.

Two members of the Structural Biology Unit (SBU) explained their work: Martin Goethe, from Ignacio Fita’s lab and Giovanna Petrillo, from Isabel Uson’s lab. Also Sébastien Lyonnais, chaired the second morning session of the meeting.

During the lunchtime, a cooking contest among all the research groups was celebrated. Each group prepared a main course and a dessert. A jury evaluated quality and presentation and finally decided the best ones in each category. The SBU achieved two second prizes in the dessert category for: “Flora, the Arcimboldo Cheesecake” and “Chocolate and Red fruits pie”.
