Two IBMB Scientists Named in the World’s Top 2% Scientists Ranking

Stanford University researchers have recently published an updated list of “The World´s Top 2% Scientists in 2021.” The list names the most influential researchers in the world. Among those named in this prestigious list are two researchers from The Molecular Biology Institute of Barcelona (IBMB-CSIC), F. Xavier Gomis-Rüth and Joaquim Roca

    F. Xavier Gomis-Rüth is the Director of the Department of Structural Biology, and he heads the Proteolysis Laboratory. In his lab, he analyzes the molecular determinants of function and regulation of proteolysis at the protein level. Joaquim Roca is the head of the DNA Topology Laboratory which seeks to decipher the structural and enzymatic ensembles that determine the 3D path of intracellular DNA strands, and how DNA pulling and twisting forces interplay with chromatin architecture and genomic activities. Both of these researchers have current and past research which has earned them each a spot among the most widely cited scientists in the world.

Stanford bases its rankings on a database called Scopus which contains publications from the most widely cited scientists in the world. Of over 180,000 researchers within the database and millions around the world, the list names the top 2% of those most cited. Both F. Xavier Gomis-Rüth and Joaquim Roca were among those named in 2021.
