The SB is made up by seven research lines, each headed by a PI, which cover distinct aspects of molecular biology and work on projects of medical, biological or biotechnological relevance. It is centered on the elucidation of the molecular basis of physiological processes and pathology through the analysis of proteins and their complexes with DNA. Employed techniques comprise molecular biology, biochemistry, and X-ray crystallography, as well as bioinformatics and the development of computational tools. In the field of structural biology, the SB stands an indisputable leading position in Spain. Its general objective is to expand the existing research capabilities through (i) the consolidation and support of the existing groups, platforms, and facilities and (ii) the incorporation of new concepts and technologies in order to be able to tackle new scientific goals and challenges.
