The main goal of the IBMB is to promote excellent basic research and to contribute to fundamental scientific advances in Biology and Biomedicine. As a key hallmark, we give priority to interdisciplinary research, with our groups being organized in four different departments covering the areas of cell biology, development, genomic regulation, and structural biology. Scientists working at IBMB use an exceptionally large range of experimental approaches, model systems and techniques to understand basic biological problems. Though committed to basic science, research within IBMB has essential implications to numerous diseases areas including cancer, brain disorders, aging and rare diseases.
Our Institute provides two superb scientific platforms: an outstanding advanced microscopy facility, covering the most powerful methodologies based on fluorescence imaging, and the platform for structural biology that provides researchers with the knowledge and tools to purify protein, generate crystals and generate data X-Ray diffraction.
